Laura Linney's portrayal as vulnerable but strong characters has made her one of the top American actors. Born to a well-known playwright's father, and was raised by a single mom who made a living as a nurse, she became interested in theatre while working with her father during the summer then pursuing acting studies, initially in Brown University and then at Juilliard School. After just two short months after graduating she began her Broadway-based career. The following year she made her first appearance in film and television. She has appeared in innumerable films, and television and stage productions since then. In her long career, she has received many awards, which includes the two Golden Globe Awards and four Primetime Emmy Awards as well as three Academy Award nominations and five Tony Award nominations. However, in spite of all the awards she has received acting has been her passion first and foremost. She continues to perform both in stage and screen.
